“New Generation” Discipleship Training School

The next DTS in Lyon starts on September, 2020 and ends on March, 2021.

What is a DTS?

A Discipleship Training School is a school to deepen your relationship with God, to learn how to make Him known and to discover the call of God for your life!

A DTS is putting time aside to ask questions and to build your life on a solid foundation. The Disciple Training School in Lyon inparticular is known as an artistic and urban school.

A NEW GENERATION Discipleship Training School?

About 30% of the world’s population is less than 20 years old! Never before in history has the youth made up such a large proportion of the population. This school’s goal is to assemble young and passionate christians who want to know God in a deeper way and to bring the gospel to this generation. In other words, it’s a DTS for young people by young people.

In order to do this, we are going to go through scripture-based training during the first 12 weeks (the Lecture Phase). We are going to live the gospel and learn how to share it. We are also going to develop artistic talents that we can use to share the gospel in innovative ways to the young generation. After the Lecture Phase, we leave for mission in a Francophone country (the Outreach) to share what we learned and received!

IT’S IN FRENCH! Profile Image

IT’S IN FRENCH!

YWAM Lyon is the only base in France who does Discipleship Training Schools in French. This school is not bilingual, it is only in French! You don’t speak the language? Don’t worry! For non-francophone students, it’s the perfect occasion to improve your French, and to immerse yourself in the culture.  We will be translating the first three weeks. After that, except for when the teacher is an anglophone, the teachings will not be translated into English. These last years, we have welcomed students from the States, South Korea, Germany, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Switzerland… and of course France!

WE LOVE THE ARTS! Profile Image

WE LOVE THE ARTS!

No need to be a professional artist to be part of this school! At YWAM Lyon, we believe that art is an effective language in sharing the message of the gospel! Each student will choose one or two artistic workshops. The workshops offered can be different each year: music, circus arts, drama, dance, visual art, etc. Each week of the Lecture Phase, we grow in our giftings and talents as we create quality performances that we will use during the Outreach.

WE ARE INVOLVED! Profile Image

WE ARE INVOLVED!

We won’t be cut off from the world! On the contrary, we will be involved in the community through different events and outings to bless the city. These past years, we have had the occasion to do street shows, meal distributions to the homeless and refugees, prison visits, leading youth groups, etc. We also strongly encourage you to be part of a local church during your time with YWAM Lyon!

To know God to make him known

The Lecture Phase is based in Lyon and lasts for 12 weeks. Each week, students will have the opportunity to attend classes touching on a specific spiritual subject. The courses are each taught by a different speaker who has both knowledge and experience in their specific field of teaching. Some examples of these weekly topics include: Intimacy with God, The Holy Spirit, The Bible, Hearing the Voice of God, and God´s Calling.

It´s also an opportunity for you to:

    • grow in creative worship and prayer
    • grow in hearing God’s voice
    • Develop your artistic talents
    • share in small groups
    • benefit from one-on-one personal support to help you enter into your destiny in Christ
    • experience community life: an ideal setting for making friends from different backgrounds and to develop your own character
  • gain hands on experience in sharing the gospel, particularly in a big-city environment.

After 3 months of Lecture Phase, we leave Lyon! Our DTS contains 8 to 9 weeks of intense, practical experience that we call the ‘Outreach Phase’. This is a time to learn how to evangelize, to serve the local church, and to get involved in humanitarian aid. At YWAM Lyon, our past Outreach destinations have been: France, Asia, Senegal and French Islands (the DOM-TOM’s). Our goal is to build long-term relationships in these places, but different locations are still possible.

So what are you waiting for? Come and join us!
Next DTS starts in September 28th, 2019

Some testimonies

What convinced me to do a DTS? First of all, this sentence: “to know God to make Him known”. And secondly, the opportunity to put time aside for God. During those 6 months, I really saw God’s hand in my life: I could experience His love for me and I grew in my faith and trust in God. Today, I can say this school was a remarkable springboard for my life into God’s plan. If I had to do it all over again, I’d do it without hesitation.

For me, the DTS was a great opportunity to more deeply discover who God really is. Is He a person far away from me who cannot do anything in my life or, is He somebody who does care a lot for me and with whom I can share everything?! This school really helped me to get closer to God! I realized that He understands me, He wants to help me and He loves me for who I am, with all my flaws. I also discovered how amazing the Bible is; I learned to explore some of its hidden treasures. In addition to all that, it’s so great to meet people from all around the world! To sum it all up: do a DTS! It’s edifying at a spiritual, relational and personal level!

A DTS is not only about making your faith grow but it’s above all, to put your faith into action. When you want to do a DTS, there is a part of the application where it asks you to talk about your spiritual and personal gifts. To be honest, I didn’t really know what to put down. Because of that, I felt like I didn’t want to go anymore. But, I went anyway! At YWAM, we are encouraged to get out of our comfort zones and to experience a real dependence on God in order to overcome our fears. In the end, it was during this time that God revealed to me what my spiritual gifts are and how I could serve Him. Since I came back from my DTS, I got involved in my church in different areas including: preaching, leading the youth group, evangelism and intercession. We often limit our gifts because we don’t know them; the DTS can reveal in us giftings that we can then develop afterwards.

When I came to my DTS, I was in a time of often doubting God’s existence. I truly wanted to be near him, and I prayed that I would stop doubting and that I would be able to live with him every day. God listened! Even after the school, I stopped having to ask myself if He really existed or not. I find him so real in my life and no one could ever take away that conviction!
