Grand frère

Après une semaine de préparation, nous voilà à « Impact Festival » : un camp pour initier des jeunes à partager l’évangile et à essayer à une forme d’art : Hip Hop, danse contemporaine, street art, mime ou musique. L’objectif étant ensuite de sortir partager tout ça en ville lors d’un énorme spectacle avec des témoignages. En temps que responsable de groupe, j’ai vu combien ce camp est une porte ouverte pour donner de solides fondations aux jeunes qui souhaitent se rapprocher de Dieu. Encouragements, prières et tête-à-tête ont été pour moi les moments les plus précieux. C’est tellement fabuleux d’entendre des jeunes ouvrir leur cœur : « Je veux me rapprocher de Jésus, le laisser prendre encore plus de place dans ma vie. Peux-tu prier ou m’aider dans cette démarche ? » ou encore : « je veux m’engager avec Jésus, je veux pas seulement d’un feu de paille qui ne durera juste le temps du camp ». Je réalise combien ces jeunes ont besoin d’être accueillis dans la famille de Dieu et encouragés par des grands frères ! J’ai vécu des temps formidables de partage avec plusieurs jeunes curieux de mon parcours. Les sujets de conversation étaient variables : on parlait souvent de repentance, de pardon et des risques liés à l’alcool et aux drogues. Un des temps forts de ces derniers jours a commencé par ces mots : « Je me sens coupable de la vie que je mène, je souhaite tellement changer, mais je ne me sens pas digne de recevoir de la grâce de Dieu. »
L’évangile et l’art
Ces jeunes cherchent un moyen de s’exprimer qui parle à leur génération. L’art est devenu plus qu’un loisir pour eux, c’est un outil de partage pour leur passion première : Jésus ! J’ai pu le voir en dirigeant l’atelier Street Art où l’on s’est spécialisés dans l’origami (l’art du pliage de papier). L’idée était d’inonder la ville de papillons colorés pour amener quelque chose d’original et de symbolique : la nouvelle naissance en Christ comme celle d’une chenille en papillon … Nous avons plié plus de 300 papillons en 2 jours et les avons assemblés de façon créative pour les exposer ensuite dans la rue au milieu des affiches du festivals. C’était un réel encouragement d’entendre les retours de certains jeunes, et aussi les entendre dire qu’ils ont appréciés prendre part à cette « mission ». J’espère avoir pu réveiller l’esprit créatif qui sommeillait en eux. On peut à la fois servir Dieu et faire ce qu’on aime !
Voir tous ces jeunes consacrer de leur temps pour annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle est une chose incroyable pour moi. C’est beau de les voir rire, s’amuser, et passer du temps tous ensemble, unis ! La relève est là : motivée à apporter l’évangile de façon innovante à sa génération !

After a week of preparation, we were ready for « Impact Festival camp » to encourage youth to share the Gospel through various forms of art such as Hip Hop, contemporary dance, street art or music. The objective is to then go out into the city of Avignon to do a larger artistic presentation accompanied by personal testimonies. Being a group leader, for me, was a great opportunity to encourage and help the youth grow deeper in their relationship with God. Encouraging them, praying together, and the one-on-one moments were the richest moments. It was amazing hear youth with such open hearts say things such as, “I want to draw closer to Jesus and to allow him to reign in my life. Can you pray for me an help me in this?” or “this week I want to draw closer to Jesus and strengthen my faith in him. I don’t simply just want a “camp high” or a short encounter with Christ that ends after the week, rather, I want to really know God in my everyday life.” These young people need and desire both the support of their big brothers in Christ and to know they belong to the family of God. I had a couple of great moments of sharing and testimonies with several youth who were curious about my story. The topic of discussion varied, but we often talked about repentance and forgiveness, and the consequences of drug and alcohol use. In the last few days one of these rich moments of discipleship started with a young person coming up to me and confessing: “ I feel guilty for the life I have lead, I so badly want to change but I feel unworthy to receive the grace of God.”
Evangelism and Art
These young people are searching for a medium to express themselves in a way that speaks to their generation. Art has become more than just a hobby for them but rather a tool to share their first passion – Jesus! I had the opportunity to lead a Street Art workshop where we focused on making origami (the art of folding paper). The idea was to cover the city with butterflies of all colors, bringing an art form that is original and symbolizes new birth in Christ (such as in the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly). In two days we made more than 300 butterflies and assembled them in creative displays to post on streets. It was truly an encouragement to hear the feedback from the students in my workshops and also to hear that they really appreciated being able to take part in this “mission”. I hope to have been able to awaken and encourage a passion for art in some of my students. For we can certainly serve God through the passions he has put in our hearts. It was been very encouraging for me to see so many youth set a side a week of their summer to share the good news of Christ with their city. It is beautiful to see them laugh, have fun, and just spend an incredible time together, united as the body of Christ. Our purpose is this: to bring the message of the Gospel through a language and medium that speak to our current generation.
